The 90s And The Start Of The 21st Century
In May 1995, the Reverend Walter J. Williams followed the leadership of the Holy Spirit to become our current Pastor. He adopted as our theme, "Raising the Standards."

The Reverend Williams would bring with him a new era in our history. His coming has brought aspiration and new pursuits. He fiercely desires that New Mount Zion achieve spiritual excellence and spiritual growth. He stresses witnessing as a way of life for every Christian.
Pastor Williams' emphasis has been worship, prayer and intense Bible Study. Through Wednesday's Family Night - Prayer and Bible Study a youth and children's class has been developed to involve the entire family; orientation has been restructured using a study guide written by Pastor Williams.
A Homiletics class is offered to prepare and educate members for the Outreach Ministry. Six classes have since graduated and are active. The Shepherd Men's Ministry was organized, promoting Bible Study and using basketball as a means to reach young men for Christ. The Adult Choirs were combined and became the "Voices of Praise" and quarterly Business Meetings were established. In addition to monthly staff meetings a Singles & Couples Ministry was organized, security guards paid, fulltime male and female custodians posted, and a Church Bus purchased. He has ordained 13 Deacons licensed 6 Ministers and ordained 2 Ministers. The organization of the New Mount Zion Enterprises Committee and continued annual financial support to education by contributing to Florida Memorial College and Florida Baptist College and Seminary. In addition, Financial awareness (Christian Education) were all melded together to create a stronger Church. Aide is given annually to our graduates.
Pastor Williams' leadership has brought into fruition our vision of a new 2 story 10,000+ square foot Family Life Center addition. The Family Life Center includes a choir room, an eleven station computer lab, new offices, a Pastor's private suite, five additional class rooms, fully loaded nurses station, and a state of the art institutional class kitchen and 250 seat dining hall. As part of the Shepherd's Men Auxiliary, a half basketball court was included as were three stages. Three additional parking lots, exterior cross with signage, landscape, benches and painted the existing exterior. Great care was taken to select the finest finishes, equipment and furnishings for the building up of God's Kingdom.

Pastor Williams served as Chairman of the Host Committee for the National Baptist Congress Of Christian Workers and the National Youth And Children Convention in 2000. The Church hosted the 2003 Campaign Rally to Elect Deacon Wallace S. Hartsfield of Kansas City, Missouri as President of the National Baptist Convention of America, Inc.
In 2004 the Ministry saw the addition of the Legal Ministry, Financial Ministry, and the Senior Citizen Awareness Ministry. The Church installed a refurbished Hammond C3 Organ. |
